For the U.S., FCC certification applies to any device that emits radio frequency energy–which includes all wireless-enabled lighting products. These devices typically fall under FCC Part 15 for unlicensed RF transmissions and must be tested for:

• Radiated and conducted emissions

• Spurious emissions

• RF exposure limits (in some cases)

For Europe, CE certification is mandatory. Wireless lighting products usually need to comply with:

• The Radio Equipment Directive (RED) for WiFi, Bluetooth, or Zigbee features

• The EMC Directive for electromagnetic compatibility

• The Low Voltage Directive (LVD) for electrical safety

If your lights connect to cloud services or smart home ecosystems, additional cybersecurity or interoperability standards may apply.

FCC requires accredited lab testing and sometimes formal authorization, while CE is based on self-declaration–but you’re still responsible for compliance and maintaining a detailed technical file.

Expect to need:
