FCC/CE Testing and Certification for Computers & Tablets
If you’re developing laptops, tablets, or any kind of computing device, you already know these products are loaded with components that can generate interference–processors, wireless modules, power supplies, and more. That’s why FCC and CE certification isn’t optional. It’s a legal requirement before you can sell in the U.S. or Europe.
Whether you’re launching a consumer tablet, an industrial panel PC, or a sleek 2-in-1 convertible, compliance testing for FCC and CE certification is a critical step. The process can seem complex–but with the right guidance, it’s straightforward. We help hardware teams, OEMs, and innovators like you complete FCC/CE testing and get your device certified quickly and efficiently.

Types of Computers & Tablets We Can Test & Certify
Computing devices combine powerful electronics with wireless communication, making them subject to strict FCC and CE regulations. Here’s a look at the types of devices we regularly handle:
Laptop
Every laptop contains high-speed processors, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and power circuits–all requiring EMC, RF, and safety testing.Tablet
Lightweight and portable, but still packed with wireless tech. Tablets must meet RF emission standards and, in some cases, SAR limits.Panel PC
Often used in industrial or commercial settings, these all-in-one computers require both standard EMC testing and sometimes tougher industrial compliance.Mini PC
Compact desktops with powerful chipsets and connectivity options–they need full EMC compliance, especially for high-frequency components.2-in-1 Convertible
These hybrid devices function as both laptops and tablets, combining multiple wireless modules and touchscreens–which means more areas to test.Chromebook
Designed for cloud-based computing, Chromebooks rely heavily on Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, requiring detailed RF testing and emissions control.Industrial Tablet
Rugged devices built for tough environments still need to meet FCC and CE standards for emissions, immunity, and wireless performance.
What to Know About FCC & CE Certification for Computers & Tablets
For devices sold in the U.S., FCC certification is required for both intentional and unintentional radiators. That means your device needs testing for:
EMC (Electromagnetic Compatibility) — to ensure it doesn’t interfere with other devices.
RF (Radio Frequency) emissions — for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and any other wireless tech.
SAR (Specific Absorption Rate) — if the device is designed to be used close to the body.
Most computing devices fall under FCC Part 15 rules.
For the EU market, CE certification applies. You’ll need to comply with the EMC Directive, the Radio Equipment Directive (RED) for wireless features, and potentially the Low Voltage Directive (LVD) for power safety. If you’re producing industrial devices, there may be additional standards to meet.
With FCC, testing through a certified lab is mandatory, and certain devices require official authorization. CE certification is self-declared, but you’re responsible for keeping detailed technical documentation and ensuring compliance across all applicable directives.
You’ll typically need:
EMC and RF testing
Safety evaluations for power supplies and batteries
SAR testing (if applicable)
A technical file (schematics, manuals, test reports)
Proper labeling (FCC ID, CE mark on device and packaging)
Retesting if hardware or firmware changes
