FCC/CE Testing and Certification for Electronic Furniture
If you’re designing electronic furniture–like a massage chair, adjustable bed, or smart desk–you’ll need more than just great engineering and comfort. Before your product can be sold in the U.S. or Europe, it must pass FCC and CE certification.
Any piece of furniture that includes motors, heating elements, wireless controls, or electronic components falls under strict compliance regulations. Whether it’s a smart recliner with Bluetooth connectivity or a standing desk with integrated electronics, these products can generate electromagnetic interference (EMI) and often use RF signals. We help manufacturers, designers, and startups get their electronic furniture certified quickly–so compliance doesn’t slow down your launch.

Types of Electronic Furniture We Can Test & Certify
If your furniture plugs in, moves, heats up, or connects wirelessly, it likely needs FCC and CE testing. Here are some of the products we regularly handle:
- Massage Chair
These include motors, vibration units, heating elements, and often wireless remotes–requiring EMC, safety, and sometimes RF testing. - Smart Chair
Chairs with Bluetooth connectivity, app control, or posture sensors fall under RF and EMC regulations. - Adjustable Bed
Motorized beds with remote controls or smart home integration need compliance checks for emissions, electrical safety, and wireless communication. - Heated Recliner
Heating elements and powered reclining functions require thorough EMC and Low Voltage Directive (LVD) testing for CE, plus FCC compliance for any electronics. - Standing Desk
Motorized standing desks with memory settings, touch controls, or Bluetooth features must meet EMC standards and RF requirements if wirelessly connected. - Smart Sofa
Sofas with built-in speakers, charging ports, or smart home connectivity require EMC, RF, and electrical safety certification. - Vibrating Massage Seat
Portable massage cushions or seats with electronic controls and wireless remotes need both emissions testing and safety evaluations.
What to Know About FCC & CE Certification for Electronic Furniture
For products sold in the U.S., FCC certification applies to any electronic device that emits radio frequency energy–even unintentionally. Electronic furniture typically includes motors, control circuits, and sometimes wireless features, which means you’ll need:
- EMC testing for radiated and conducted emissions
- RF testing if Bluetooth, WiFi, or other wireless tech is included
- Compliance with FCC Part 15 for unlicensed RF devices
For Europe, CE certification covers several directives depending on your product’s features:
- The EMC Directive for electromagnetic compatibility
- The Low Voltage Directive (LVD) for electrical safety, especially for powered furniture
- The Radio Equipment Directive (RED) if your furniture includes wireless connectivity
FCC certification requires testing through an accredited lab and, in some cases, formal authorization. CE certification is based on self-declaration, but you’re responsible for ensuring compliance and keeping a detailed technical file.
You’ll typically need:
- EMC and RF testing (if applicable)
- Electrical safety evaluations for motors, heating, and control systems
- Technical documentation (wiring diagrams, manuals, test reports)
- Proper labeling (FCC compliance statement, CE mark)
- Retesting if you modify electronics, firmware, or wireless modules
