FCC/CE Testing and Certification for Drones

If you’re developing drones or UAV systems, you already know you’re working with advanced technology—wireless communication, GPS, sensors, cameras, and powerful motors. But before your drone can take off commercially in the U.S. or Europe, it must land safely on one important requirement: FCC and CE certification.

Drones are packed with components that regulators care about—RF transmissions, electromagnetic interference (EMI), battery safety, and more. Whether you’re building a consumer drone, a commercial UAV, or a specialized industrial drone, compliance testing isn’t optional. We help drone manufacturers, startups, and tech innovators get certified quickly, so you can focus on flight performance—not paperwork.

Types of Drones We Can Test & Certify

If your drone transmits data, connects wirelessly, or includes electronic control systems, it falls under FCC and CE regulations. Here are some of the drone types and related systems we regularly handle:

  • Consumer Drones
Standard quadcopters with WiFi, Bluetooth, or proprietary RF controllers require thorough RF, EMC, and battery safety testing.

  • FPV (First Person View) Drones
These drones use high-frequency video transmission systems, making RF compliance critical—especially for video transmitters and controllers.

  • Commercial UAVs
Used in mapping, agriculture, or inspections, these drones often include GPS, cellular modules, and long-range RF—requiring multi-band RF certification and EMC testing.

  • Industrial Drones
Heavy-duty drones with advanced sensors, radar, or LiDAR systems must comply with strict emissions standards and safety directives.

  • Drone Controllers & Ground Stations
Handheld controllers or base stations with RF communication, touchscreens, and wireless telemetry fall under both RF and EMC regulations.

  • Autonomous Drones
Drones with AI navigation, wireless data links, and advanced communication systems need comprehensive testing across multiple wireless protocols.

  • Delivery Drones
These often integrate GPS, 4G/5G, WiFi, and remote-control systems—requiring layered RF compliance and safety testing.

  • Drone Accessories
Wireless cameras, telemetry modules, and video transmitters used with drones also require independent FCC and CE certification.

What to Know About FCC & CE Certification for Drones

For drones sold or operated in the U.S., FCC certification is mandatory for:

  • RF transmitters (controllers, video links, telemetry)

  • WiFi, Bluetooth, and cellular modules

  • EMC compliance for electronic speed controllers (ESCs), flight controllers, and power systems

  • Compliance with FCC Part 15, and in some cases, other parts depending on frequency bands and power levels

For Europe, CE certification covers multiple directives:

  • The Radio Equipment Directive (RED) for all wireless communication

  • The EMC Directive for electromagnetic compatibility

  • The Low Voltage Directive (LVD) for battery and power safety

  • Potential additional requirements for industrial, agricultural, or autonomous drone applications

If your drone operates on specific frequencies, especially for FPV or long-range communication, both FCC and CE have strict rules about allowed bands and transmission power. Non-compliance can lead to fines, product recalls, or sales bans.

You’ll typically need:

  • RF testing across all communication systems (controllers, video, telemetry, GPS, etc.)

  • EMC testing for onboard electronics and ground stations

  • Battery and charging safety evaluations

  • SAR testing if devices are handheld or body-worn (like FPV goggles)

  • Full technical documentation (schematics, frequency charts, manuals, test reports)

  • Proper labeling (FCC ID, CE mark, frequency usage labels)

  • Retesting if hardware, firmware, or wireless modules change
