If you’re located in Canada and would like to bring your electronic device to market in the United States, it will need to achieve regulatory compliance with the Code of Federal Regulations, Title 47, Part 15 (better known as the FCC Part 15 rules).

Under FCC Part 15, electronic devices that are capable of emitting radio frequency (RF) energy are required to complete testing and demonstrate that they operate within the FCC’s parameters for electromagnetic interference (EMI).

We specialize in FCC testing and certification, and can help you test your device, verify it meets the FCC’s standards, and receive FCC certification, allowing you to market your device legally in the United States.

To request a free, no-obligation quote for FCC testing and FCC certification, contact us online or call us at 866-540-5287. We frequently work with individuals and businesses in Canada and can help you complete testing and achieve compliance quickly and efficiently.

Why is FCC Testing & Certification Required?

In the United States, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) regulates use of the radio spectrum. All electronic devices that can potentially interfere with radio communications need to comply with FCC regulations, including FCC Part 15 and/or FCC Part 18.

FCC Part 15 is the most common, meaningful regulation for electronic devices. It imposes limits on radiated emissions, conducted emissions and requires minimum performance standards for electromagnetic immunity (your device’s ability to withstand interference from other devices).

These limits exist to prevent electronic devices from causing interference that may affect radio, TV, Wi-Fi or other signals.

As an ANSI-accredited testing lab, we specialize in FCC compliance and can test your device, verify that it’s compliant, and achieve FCC certification, granting you an FCC ID and access to the United States market.

Failing to comply with FCC regulations can have significant consequences. Almost all retailers in the United States require proof of FCC ID for items subject to FCC Part 15, and the FCC will regularly fine distributors of non-compliant devices found on the market.

What Devices Need FCC Certification?

With rare exceptions, FCC Part 15 applies to all electronic devices that are capable of emitting radio frequency waves. It covers both devices classed by the FCC as  intentional radiators and unintentional radiators.

Intentional radiators are devices that use RF energy for communications, such as smartphones, radio equipment, Wi-Fi devices and other devices with built-in wireless communications.

Unintentional radiators are devices that do not use RF technology for communication, but could produce RF energy as a byproduct of their electrical circuitry.

Electronic devices regulated under FCC Part 15 include:

  • Smartphones and other mobile devices
  • Cordless phones, remotes and control devices
  • TVs, Hi-Fi systems and other home entertainment equipment
  • Dishwashers, microwaves and other home appliances
  • Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and Internet of Things (IoT) devices
  • Electronic musical instruments and recording devices
  • Computers, printers, keyboards and other peripherals
  • Security cameras and other home security systems
  • Commercial and industrial electronic devices and equipment
  • Other consumer electronics
