CE Certification is Required to Sell Your Device in Europe
By law, your device must comply with European Union directives and display a valid CE mark in order to enter into the European Economic Area market.
The European Economic Area includes all of the European Union countries, as well as Iceland, Norway and Liechtenstein. Compliance with CE rules involves lab testing your electronic device to verify that it meets the minimum requirements of EU directives.
Common directives that apply to electronic devices include the following:
- Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) Directive. This regulation sets limits for devices’ electromagnetic emissions (radiated emissions) to prevent electromagnetic interference.
- Radio Equipment Directive (RED). This regulation applies to devices that use the radio frequency (RF) spectrum and sets minimum electromagnetic performance requirements.
- Low Voltage Directive (LVD). This regulation sets safety standards for devices in the 15 and 1,000 volts AC or 75 to 1,500 volts DC ranges.
- Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) Directive. This regulation sets limits for the use of hazardous materials, such as lead, mercury and others, in electronic devices.
Your electronic device may be subject to one or several EU directives. Our engineers can inform you about the testing and regulatory compliance requirements for your device.
