Electronic devices marketed in the European Economic Area (EEA, a common market made up of all EU countries and Iceland, Norway and Liechtenstein) are legally required to comply with a range of European regulatory directives.
Devices that comply with these regulations are referred to as being CE certified. The process of achieving CE certification involves testing your device in an accredited lab to verify compliance and affixing the CE mark to your device.

CE Certification is Mandatory to Sell Your Device in Europe
By law, your device must achieve compliance with all European Conformity (CE) directives that apply based on its type and function. Devices that comply with CE rules are entitled to display a CE marking and enter onto the market.
The process of testing your device and achieving compliance with CE regulations is referred to as CE certification. To certify your device, you will need to complete testing using an accredited lab partner and verify that your device meets the standards of all relevant regulatory directives.
Common European directives for electronic devices include:
- Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) Directive. The EMC Directive sets limits for electromagnetic interference (EMI) to ensure that electronic devices function effectively within a shared electromagnetic environment.
- Radio Equipment Directive (RED). The Radio Equipment Directive applies to all devices that intentionally use the radio frequency spectrum for communication.
- Low Voltage Directive (LVD). The Low Voltage Directive sets safety standards for devices that operate within the 15 to 1,000 volts AC or 75 to 1,500 volts DC voltage ranges.
- Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) Directive. The RoHS Directive restricts the use of harmful materials, such as lead, cadmium and others, in electronic devices.
Your electronic device may be subject to one or several European regulations. The specific test requirements can vary based on the directives that apply to your device, as well as your device type.
Our team can inform you about the specific EU directives that apply to your device and testing procedures before you start the CE certification process.
