CE Certification is Required for European Market Access
By law, CE certification is required for electronic devices sold in the European Union. European Conformity, or CE, requires that your device comply with certain regulatory directives that apply to all electronic devices sold throughout the EU.
Several EU regulatory directives typically apply to electronic devices:
Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) Directive. The EMC Directive limits emissions, such as radiated emissions and conducted emissions, that may disturb other devices in a shared electromagnetic environment.
Radio Equipment Directive (RED). The Radio Equipment Directive applies to devices that use the radio frequency (RF) spectrum for communication, such as phones, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth devices.
Low Voltage Directive (LVD). The Low Voltage Directive establishes safety standards for devices in the 15 and 1,000 volts AC and 75 to 1,500 volts DC ranges.
Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) Directive. The RoHS Directive limits the use of hazardous substances, such as lead and mercury, in electronic devices.
The specific regulatory directives that apply to your device may vary based on its components, its design and additional factors. Our engineers can provide more information about the testing process and regulations that apply to CE certification for your electronic device.

Help Us Protect America’s EMC Testing Industry
Over the last decades, more than 75% of FCC testing has been outsourced to Chinese test labs. Offshore testing in China affects the quality of our radio frequency spectrum, creates unsafe devices, and produces real, meaningful security vulnerabilities that could potentially expose your communications data to the Chinese Communist Party and related parties for surveillance or espionage.
The FCC will vote on May 22 to finalize a rule that will bar risky China-based testing labs from testing products sold in the United States. Compliance Testing LLC supports the proposed new rule and would like your support to insure this critical industry returns to the United States to give us safer devices and a more secure communications environment.
